Sony Announces PlayLink Gaming Platform, Allows Smartphones To Interact With PS4 Games

As part of their E3 pre-show Sony have announced PlayLink – “a new way to play” – which allows players to interact with specially designed PS4 games via smartphone.

The technology isn’t an entirely new concept, as Jackbox Games’ Party Pack series of titles have done similar for a while, but the application shown here is certainly interesting, and looks to be a little more novel than just selecting from a range of answers.

The first two games were also shown off at the event, Hidden Agenda is a multiplayer murder mystery title, whilst That’s You is a more traditional party-game affair, that will be free to all PS+ subscribers from July.

Check out the trailers:

We also know there’s a Singstar title for PlayLink in the works, and a trivia quiz, Knowledge Is Power.

PlayLink certainly looks like it will bring party games to consoles when the first round of games launch later this year. Now, can someone get on the phone to Jason Donovan, and brink back Buzz, please?

Need For Speed Payback Will Hit The Streets This November

The next installment in the long running Need For Speed game franchise – which we now know is called Need For Speed: Payback – will launch later this year, it’s been announced.

Developed by Ghost Games, the same team behind the 2015 NFS series reboot, Payback sees three different playable characters head to Fortune Valley (a fictionalised take on Las Vegas) to search for vengeance against The House, a nefarious cartel that rules the city’s casinos, criminals, and cops.

In addition to having various roles to play, Payback will feature multiple game modes and race types, alongside deep customization and tuning options for the vehicles.

As with most modern games, EA have announced a pre-order bonus for the title too, with those who throw their chips down early getting a “Platinum Car Pack” for use in game – a Nissan 350Z 2008, Chevrolet Camaro SS 1967, Dodge Charger R/T 1969, Ford F-150 Raptor 2016, and the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport 2016. A Deluxe Edition is also available, which packs exclusive customization items, in-game discounts, bonuses, and shipments, as well as a free download of upcoming story DLC at a later date.

EA Access subscribers on Xbox One will be able to jump in to a 10 hour free trial from November 2nd, and those who choose to purchase the Deluxe Edition of the game will get the full title on November 7, 3 days before general launch.

For everyone else, Need For Speed: Payback will release across PC, Xbox One & PS4 on November 10th, 2017.
