Seven Bucks Productions Teaming Up With Writer Stephen Merchant For New Movie Based On WWE’s Paige & Her Family

The Rock’s production company, Seven Bucks Productions, are working on a comedic drama based on WWE Superstar Paige, and her family. Johnson will be working alongside Comedian Stephen Merchant who is on board as writer, director and executive producer.

The movie will be loosely based on British documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting With My Family, a film which was made before Paige – real name Saraya Bevis – found her fame with World Wrestling Entertainment.

The new flick, co-produced by WWE Studios and Film 4 will see Florence Pugh playing Saraya, Jack Lowden as brother Zak, Nick Frost as father Ricky Knight, and Lena Headey as Julia, Saraya’s mother. Johnson will also star in the film, although as to what capacity is not yet known.

“Not only was I intrigued by this loving and wild family, but I also felt it’s the kind of narrative that would make an amazing movie,” Johnson said of the project.

There’s been no release date announced, but Fighting With My Family is expected to enter production this month.

Kurt Angle Heads Up WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2017 – It’s True, It’s Damn True!

Olympic gold medalist and six-time WWE Champion Kurt Angle is the first confirmed inductee into the WWE Hall Of Fame for 2017. The ceremony will take place Friday March 31st in Orlando Florida, ahead of Wrestlemania 33 the following Sunday.

Angle, now 48, asked for his release from WWE in 2006 after a 7 year run, and has since spent spent 10 years with rival promotion TNA, retiring in early 2016.

“I was shocked. I’ve been out of WWE for a long time and out of touch with them, so I didn’t really expect this,” Angle told

“It’s a huge honor. This is the only Hall of Fame that I’m not in and probably [the one] I want to be in the most. This is the one that means the most for me. I had a lot of fun entertaining the fans for seven years with WWE, and I’m glad that my hard work paid off.”

Angle has had well documented troubles with substance abuse in the past, but is now said to be clean, and hasn’t entirely ruled out making a re-appearance in a WWE ring.

“I took this year off and enjoyed it thoroughly; almost too much, to the point where I was thinking maybe I’m not going to go back anywhere. But I really believe that the contract with WWE, whether I wrestle or not — and there aren’t any guarantees either way — I feel like being an ambassador to the company is the most important thing for them and for me right now.”

“We have not talked about any wrestling,” Angle said. “Whether we do or not, that remains to be seen. … There are no guarantees. I think right now the most important thing is the Hall of Fame — and I think both sides feel that way.”

Angle’s been making appearances on the independent circuit during 2016, although largely taking the year off to spend time with his family. His wife, Giovanna, gave birth to their fifth child, Nikoletta, in November.

“There was unfinished business [with WWE] the day I asked for a release. I always knew that I would come back, I just didn’t know when. This is my real home, and even though I was gone longer than when I started, this is where I made my name.”

Pro Wrestling Insider reported earlier this week that DDP – Diamond Dallas Page – will also be joining the class of 2017, although this hasn’t been confirmed by WWE.

Page is currently investing his efforts in DDP Yoga, a health and well-being program developed to assist athletes like himself who had suffered years of injuries due to high impact sports and fitness. DDP has been credited with rebuilding the lives of troubled stars including Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Scott Hall, as well as helping numerous others including Mick Foley, Vader & Chris Jericho.

Wrestling Legend Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka Dies Aged 73

Former professional wrestler Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka passed away Sunday, it’s been announced. He was 73.

Attorney Robert Kirwan II told ESPN Snuka died “due to complications from his ongoing medical problems” but did not elaborate. Snuka was known to be receiving care for ongoing dementia and infection.

The sad news of Snuka’s passing comes just weeks after Murder charges against him – relating to the death of former girlfriend Nancy Argentino in 1983 – were dismissed by a judge who deemed the retired WWE superstar incompetent to stand trial.

Snuka’s wrestling career dates back as far as the 70s, and his iconic 1983 jump from the top of a steel cage at Madison Square Garden is still considered by many as one of pro-wrestling’s greatest moments.

Snuka had numerous runs with WWF, now WWE, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1996. Superfly made his final appearance with the company at Wrestlemania 25 in 2009, joining Roddy Piper & Ricky Steamboat, the legends faced Chris Jericho in a 3-on-1 handicap match.

TNA Expected To File For Bankruptcy

The long, slow, painful death of TNA drags on, with the company expected to file for bankruptcy soon, reports industry expert Dave Meltzer on his latest Wrestling Observer Radio show.

Meltzer was unclear as to whether TNA would be filing Chapter 7 or Chapter 11 bankruptcy, but Chapter 7 would likely mean the end of the company as all assets would be sold.

TNA currently have TV tapings scheduled through to January, including another outing to the Hardy family compound.

We’re all agreed TNA are broken, but will this be the final deletion of the company as we know it?
