Nintendo have today released new details regarding its upcoming paid online service for Nintendo Switch. They had earlier planned to have the service go live in Fall 2017 – meaning that Switch owners could play games online for free until then – however the company’s now revealed paid online won’t launch until 2018, which is great news for early adopters of the system.
Pricing for the service has also been announced, with 1 Month, 3 Month and Annual Membership options, costing 3.99/7.99/19.99 respectively.
Further to the low pricing, more good news comes by way of the included game options – think PlayStation Plus or Games With Gold.
“Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will have ongoing access to a library of classic games with added online play.”
“Users can play as many of the games as they want, as often as they like, as long as they have an active subscription.”
“Nintendo Switch Online subscribers will be able to play a wide variety of classic games, including Super Mario Bros. 3, Balloon Fight and Dr. Mario. More games will be announced at a later date. At launch the classic game library will include NES games. Super NES games continue to be under consideration, but we have nothing further to announce at this time.”
Nintendo have otherwise remained silent on the future of Virtual Console on Switch.
