UK videogame retailer GAME is expanding its footprint on the high-street by opening concessions within WH Smith stores, it’s been announced.
The plan would see the UK’s largest newsagent chain carry a selection of products under the GAME banner, including top software, merchandise and accessories. It’s probably not going to mean you can pick up an Xbox One alongside the Daily Mail and a book of First Class postage stamps though.
“GAME Retail is rolling out a small number of concessions as part of an ongoing trial across WHSmith stores in 2016, […] Alongside our 300 high street stores it means easier access to top video games, accessories and merchandise for our community of gamers nationwide.”
The news follows a challenging period for GAME who’ve closed many of their smaller dedicated stores over recent years, and also missed sales targets during Christmas 2015 period, which resulted in a 81% year-on-year drop in profit.
