It’s something we’ve been able to do on PlayStation Store for a couple of years, and now – with certain carriers at least – Xbox gamers can pay for their store purchases via their mobile phone too.
As of today, Operator Billing is available via the Xbox Store on Xbox One, as well as in the Xbox App on Windows 10 devices and iOS and Android smartphones, depending on location. Of course, you’ll need to be using a supported carrier, which are listed below:
- Beeline Russia
- DNA Finland
- Elisa Finland
- O2 Germany
- O2 UK
- Swisscom Switzerland
- Telenor Hungary
- Telenor Norway
- Telenor Sweden
Not on that list? Don’t worry. Microsoft say more operators will will be added in the future.
One of the core missions for Xbox has always been to offer premium gaming to the greatest number of people around the world – powered by the biggest lineup of games in Xbox history. Central to our goal of making gaming on Xbox accessible to more fans around the world is making sure gamers have a choice in how they purchase content in our Store.
That’s why we offer Mobile Operator Billing on Xbox to make buying your next favorite game easier and safer than ever. In case you’ve never heard of Operator Billing, it’s one of the most popular payment methods around the world because it doesn’t require a credit card. Today, many Xbox gamers use their phone number to pay for games, movies, TV shows and much more, and have the charges added directly to their phone bill. Best of all, once this payment method is added to a Microsoft Account, all future purchases can be charged automatically.
Using the new payment method is easy too, just find content you’d like to purchase, choose to “Add a new payment method” on the payment screen, and select “Mobile phone”. Input your number and you’ll receive a verification code which you’ll need to pop back into the store page, but that’s all there is to it.
