Lara Croft’s next adventure will be named Shadow of the Tomb Raider, if the apparent leak posted to reddit earlier today is to be believed.
While there’s been no official comment, Kotaku verified the name as accurate according to their sources, and have also reported how Shadow will not be developed by Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind Tomb Raider (2013) and Rise Of The Tomb Raider, but instead be headed up by Eidos Montreal, of Thief and Deus Ex fame.
It’s worth pointing out that Eidos Montreal had previously worked on the rather under-appreciated multiplayer aspect of 2013’s Tomb Raider reboot, so aren’t completely fresh to the franchise as a whole.
Does the new studio mean a split team and yearly development cycle? It’s certainly a possibility, given that between 1996-2003 we saw no less than 8 original Tomb Raider titles, with another yearly output through 2006, 7 and 8 before the reboot.
This is certainly a franchise the publishers want to milk for every penny – so one can only assume Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, if that is it’s real name, won’t be getting a timed exclusivity deal.
