Spotify Free Serving Malware Infected Ads To PC Users

It’s being reported by several parties online that the subscription free version of streaming music service Spotify is serving up adverts riddled with malware to PC users.

“A small number of users have experienced a problem with questionable website pop ups in their default browsers as a result of an isolated issue with an ad on our free tier,” Spotify said, continuing “We have now identified the source of the problem and have shut it down. We will continue to monitor the situation.”

Although it’s true that only users on the desktop version of Spotify were affected in this instance, and those using mobile devices or the paid service will likely be free from infection, this isn’t the first time Spotify ads have caused problems, so if you’re a regular user of the service, it’s worth running a full system security scan ASAP.
