Chikara – a fun-filled, high-flying, over-the-top lucha style wrestling promotion, have today announced plans to launch CHIKARA: Action Arcade Wrestling.
Inspired by the classic wrestling video games from the 16-bit era, CAAW takes the best parts of arcade games like Wrestlefest and Saturday Night Slam Masters to bring players the most over-the-top, CHIKARA wrestling matches ever conceived with the power of Unreal Engine 4.
To get the game off the ground, Chikara have launched an IndieGoGo, where they’re asking for $25,000 towards development. Check out the announcement video below, and if looks like your bag, chuck them a few dollars at the funding page.
CHIKARA: Action Arcade Wrestling is certainly appealing to me, with some fantastic move animations and the promise of various match types including singles, multi-man and cage battles amongst others. I’m a little dubious about the two-button control scheme though, since the last “classic” game we saw with one of those was the simply atrocious Dino Dini’s Kick Off Revival.
It really can’t turn out that bad though. Nothing can ever be that bad again.
