Japanese financial publication Nikkei have posted reports suggesting that today, December 15, marks the official date Hideo Kojima left his tenure at Konami – and is now set to open a new studio “with the intent of creating games for platforms like Sony’s PlayStation”
The relationship between Kojima and Konami has been subject to scrutiny for the better part of 2015, and began when it was announced that horror title P.T. – Kojima & Guillermo del Toro’s teaser for the in development Silent Hills was pulled from PSN, and development on that game was inexplicably canned.
Further questions were raised when Konami then began removing Kojima’s name from marketing material for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and then there was that resignation and leaving party for a man that Konami say wasn’t leaving.
Most recently, Geoff Keighley publicly stated that lawyers acting on Konami’s behalf had barred Kojima from attending the Game Awards in LA due to his “employment contract” with the studio.
Kojima’s not known for being one to rush his projects, so whatever’s in the pipeline may take a while to come to fruition, but I’m sure we’ll hear word on how his “vacation” has been soon enough, if he is indeed now free of his contractual obligations at Konami.
File this one under “even more rumours and speculation” until we hear more.

Eleven years since the first title shipped, there’s a new Psychonauts game on the horizon, it’s been revealed. Tim Schafer’s Double Fine are crowdfunding the sequel via fig.co, asking for $3.3million, with another $10-13m at least coming from other sources, such as Double Fine themselves, and an unnamed external partner.
The original game followed the story of a young psychic named Razputin in his quest to join an elite group of international secret agents, the Psychonauts. The game ends on a cliffhanger with the promise of more to come, and now it’s time to tell that story, says the campaign page.
In Psychonauts 2, Raz realizes his dream and visits Psychonauts Headquarters. However, when he gets there, he finds it’s not the perfect place he expected and quickly realizes that the Psychonauts need him more than he needs them.
Psychonauts 2 will feature a new hub world inside Psychonauts HQ. You’ll access new mental worlds as Raz peeks inside the minds of a host of new characters who need his help to combat their inner demons and unravel their deep-seated emotional issues. Raz will hone his secret agent PSI-abilities—and learn new ones too—using them to solve mysteries and uncover evil plots.
Assuming funding is found, Psychonauts 2 will be released on Windows, Mac, PS4 and Xbox One.

Earlier today Ubisoft took to the stage at The Game Awards to reveal new footage of the forthcoming Far Cry title, Primal.
Far Cry Primal is set around 10,000BC, which presumably means less guns than previous incarnations, but also, far more importantly – more sabre-toothed tigers and wild bears. In the trailer we learn that our hero, Takkar, is the first man to tame the giant beasts, using his fluffy friends as an important ally as he enters battle and bids to rise above extinction and survive the land of Oros.
Far Cry Primal is due for release on PS4 and Xbox One at the end of February 2016, with the PC release delayed by one week, to the start of March.
A few months ago NetherRealm announced that Mortal Kombat X would be receiving a second wave of DLC, Kombat Pack 2, some time in early 2016 – and today it seems the details regarding the kombatants in said pack have been revealed.
In what appears to be a case of ‘accidental early upload syndrome’ ahead of The Game Awards later today, Warner posted a video to YouTube detailing four new characters.
Today Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment confirmed the four new playable characters coming to Mortal Kombat X in Kombat Pack 2 as downloadable content (DLC) in the first quarter of 2016.
The new guest characters include Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre horror film series and the Xenomorph from the classic sci-fi horror film franchise Alien.
Additional characters include classic Mortal Kombat characters Bo Rai Cho, master of the drunken fist, and series favourites Cyrax, Sektor and Robot Smoke in the form of new Kombatant, Tri-Borg.
We expect further details soon.
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles was announced earlier this year as a trilogy of games for new-gen consoles and PC – that is to say, it wasn’t expected on the PlayStation Vita. You can’t sneak anything past the ratings board, however.
The first title in the series – China – came back in April and received a respectable 7/10 in our review at the time, with the other titles, India and Russia, due before the year was out.
Little else has been heard regarding those games since, until yesterday, when a new classification appeared via the Brazilian rating board’s website, which appears to reveal the trilogy may well be on its way to Vita systems.
With the Game Awards later today and PlayStation Experience 2015 right after that it’s prime season for a few unexpected announcements, so we can expect official word on this one shouldn’t be too far away.
Supercar soccer title Rocket League is revving up for an Xbox One launch this coming February, it’s been announced. A brief trailer shown at The Game Awards revealed the news, along with a couple of exclusive vehicles coming to the Xbox One.
The Halo Hogsticker and Gears Of War Armadillo will join all the cars and content currently found in the PS4 and PC versions of the game.
It’s believed the Xbox One version wont allow the same cross-platform play found in the PS4 & PC versions of the game, however the new release will include the Supersonic Fury and Revenge Of The Battle Cars DLC packs in its base price.
