Borderlands Pre Sequel Developer 2K Australia Closes

2K Australia, the Canberra based studio which most recently brought us Borderlands The Pre Sequel, have closed their doors for good, it has been confirmed.

The company – founded in 2000 as a division of Irrational Games – had previously worked on the Bioshock Games, as well as 2013’s The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, and was Australia’s last remaining AAA-style game studio.

In a statement confirming the sad news, 2K said:

We can confirm we have taken steps to begin the studio closure process for 2K Australia in order to better manage ongoing development costs while improving the working proximity of our creative teams. We are very grateful for the team’s valuable contributions to numerous 2K projects, and are working with affected staff to explore reassignment opportunities where possible.

Thankfully, for those whom 2K’s “reassignment opportunities” are not viable, many of the nation’s smaller studios, including mobile developer Halfbrick have rallied in support of the talented folks let go by 2K with an online list of job possibilities springing up here.

As with any news of this nature, I wish all those affected by the studio’s closure the very best for the future.
