President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Andrew House took to the CES stage in Las Vegas earlier this evening to talk PlayStation, and announced some astonishing sales figures for the unit.
As of December 28th, Sony’s little black box had sold 4.2 million units worldwide. This new figure follows the recent reveal by rival firm Microsoft, who announced that their next-gen console – the Xbox One – surpassed 3 million units last year. It’s also been previously revealed that the PlayStation 4 managed a sell-through of in-excess of 1 million units on their US launch day alone.
Software sales figures are also looking very promising on the platform, with 9.7 million games being purchased at retail, or via the US and European PlayStation Stores. The console hasn’t seen release in the Japanese market yet.
