Following a closed regional pilot earlier in the year, Sony has today begun rolling out its free Xperia security service – My Xperia – to users worldwide.
My Xperia is Sony’s take on Apple’s popular Find My iPhone service, and allows users who have a tendency to misplace their gadgets to locate, lock and even completely wipe devices from a simple web interface, should you suspect it to have fallen into the wrong hands.
Once a phone is registered, you’re simply required to log in to the myxperia.sonymobile.com portal using the same Google ID as registered with your Android device, where you’ll then be presented with a host of remote operations.
So, if you just can’t bear the thought of losing your top-of-the-range handset, or like me, you tend to keep every app logged in, then you really should keep an eye out for the forthcoming system software update.
My Xperia which will be available to anyone with a 2012 model Xperia onwards, be that a mobile or tablet device, in the coming few weeks.
